Christian Schad Museum
The first step on the way to the “Aschaffenburg Museum Mile between Stift and Schloss” is being taken by the Christian Schad Museum, directly adjacent to the Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche.
Christian Schad (1894-1982)
He is one of the most important protagonists of Modernism. An initially provisional arrangement turned into a stay in Aschaffenburg of four decades. Next to his “icons” of New Objectivity, his world fame was based on the camera-less photograph, or Schadograph.
Christian-Schad-Stiftung Aschaffenburg
In 2002 Bettina Schad founded the Christian-Schad-Stiftung Aschaffenburg. The foundation researches, presents, and – in a targeted way – acquires Schad’s works. It publishes the catalogue raisonné and supports international research and exhibition projects.
The collection
The holdings consist of over 3,200 works, which will be exhibited in a changing selection and in a breadth that is unique worldwide. The museum visitor can expect paintings, drawings, prints, collages, and Schadographs from all of the artist’s creative periods.

The catalogue raisonné, made up of five volumes, is published in German and English.
